Zhao, Yuping is a professor in the School of Electronics, Peking University, Beijing, China. She received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Northern Jiaotong University, Beijing, China, in 1983 and 1986, respectively. She received the Ph.D. and Doctor of Science degrees in wireless communications from Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Her research interests include the wireless communications and signal processing, coaxial communications, wireless sensor networks, internet of things.

Prof. Zhao has published more than 100 research papers, and most of them are published in top-tier conferences and journals. She has more than 20 IPRs have been filed, and obtained two Prizes of Scientific and Technological Progress from Hunan Provence and Ministry of Education of China. She has served in the Technical Program Committee of IEEE international conferences. She is serving as an editor of Journal on Communications, China.

Prof. Zhao has more than ten research projects including National Science Foundation of China (NSPC), 863 project, and has very closed collaboration with companies in telecommunication filed. Her research achievements are summarized as follows:

1) OFDM communications systems: In the Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing research field, three creative works have been done: a) Proposed Inter-carrier interference (ICI) self-cancellation scheme, which can mitigate the ICI caused by frequency offset. (paper in: IEEE Trans. on Comm, Vol.49, No.7, 2001). b) Proposed Channel estimation method by using transform domain signals. (paper in IEEE VTC1997). c)Proposed Using correlative coding to reduce ICI in OFDM systems. (paper in IEEE Comm Letters,1998). Based google citation May 2017, the number of citation for above three papers are 934, 453, 167, respectively.

2) HINOC coaxial communication systems: HIgh performance Network Over Coax (HINOC) is new communication system over Coax, which has been created in Peking University and Xidian University. As a key member of HINOC project, her main task is physical layer design, algorithm study, standardization. Over 20 patents applications have be applied, and most of them are filed. Currently, HINOC already confirmed as two Chinese standards, and two ITU standards.

3) High efficient multiple Access scheme: In the Radio resource management scenario, the collision in the multiple access stage reduce the spectrum efficiency. The works here are concentrated on the: a) Anti-collision algorithm studies, and number of paper and IPRs have been applied. b) Radio resource management for 2G/3G/4G wireless communication systems; Some RRM scheme have been utilized in the practical systems.
